Businessman Michael Koska to run for House District 77
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 30, 2008
COLUMIBA, SC - Saying he's got "the right experience" to do a good job, businessman and community leader Michael Koska has announced he'll run as a candidate for the District 77 State House seat.
Koska, owner of Koska Photography and founder and president of the Northeast Business Association, will run as a Republican for the seat which is being vacated by Rep. John Scott.
"I am running because I believe I have the experience that counts: experiece as a successfull businessman, which will help me be effective on economic development matters, and leadership experience as a community activist," Koska said. "I have valuable experience helping my neighbors come up with creative, new solutions to many of the problems facing our area, and I believe that style of community leadership is needed during this critical time."
Koska also said he'll take a "businessman's approach" to government. "I'll insist of keeping overhead as low as possible, while demanding maximum results -- just as a good business would," he said. "I'll put my years of business experience to work to make government run more efficiently and effectively, so our tax dollars can be used where they are needed most -- such as in education and health care -- rather than on bloated beauraucracy or duplicative services."
"I believe we badly need more businesspeople in state government."
Koska said he'll stress four main issues throughout the upcoming campaign: improving education; finding a way to make prescription drugs more affordable for everyone, especially senior citizens; renewing the state's focus on economic development and recruiting new, better-paying jobs to the state and the local community; and finding solutions to traffic congestion and other infrastructure problems.
Koska also vowed to be a consensus-builder who would put the good of the community over special interests and "political power-brokers."
"I'm a businessman; not a lawyer, and certainly not a politician. My only obligation will be to the people of House District 77," he said.
